Mihingo Lodge is a luxury safari lodge in a dramatic setting adjacent to Lake Mburo National Park. The lodge can easily be visited on safaris out of Kigali or when you arrive through Entebbe Airport. The drive from Kampala to Mihingo Lodge located in Lake Mburo National Park takes about 4hours on a very good tarmac road. You would be able to get a stop-over enroute and take photos at the equator and still arrive at Mihingo Lodge in time for lunch. Mihingo Lodge stands on a huge granite rock with dramatic views of the vast Lake Mburo National Park in the horizon.
Mihingo Lodge was aesthetically designed to blend into the local environment with local materials and furnishings that offer a luxury African feel, comfort, relaxation and a unique closeness with the natural surrounding environment. An Olympic size swimming pool allows guests to cool off while overlooking the majestic valley below where wildlife and game including elands, buffalos, leopards, warthogs, zebras, bushbucks and birds can be seen at the watering hole.
Mihingo Lodge is proudly the only lodge in Uganda that offers horseback safaris into Lake Mburo National Park. You may choose the option of a daytime horse safari or a night time horse safari. Mihingo Lodge has 12 luxury cottages designed to provide guests at the lodge with luxury, privacy and comfort combined. Each room is designed with its own unique charming character and distinct views of either the forest, vast savannah, the lake, the rock, or the watering hole. Be sure to have dramatic views from whichever cottages you choose to stay in or are assigned to. You will get the feel of being alone in the private African wild.
Each of the cottages and tents is very spacious and has a luxury traditional African feel to it. Each of the rooms is furnished with luxury bathrooms with hot and cold water, luxury showers and flushing w/cs. The walls have screed that gives them a rustic coastal Arabic feel. Lighting is provided by reliable solar panels that also provide hot water to all the bathrooms and public places at Mihingo Lodge.
Mihingo Lodge has a thatched onsite dining area which is located on the top of the granite rock, with great views of the vast Lake Mburo Park savannah plains and beyond. The dining lounge enjoys a cool breeze that blows from Lake Kacheera. Morning tea or coffee is served in your room if you prefer, so that you can sip on an aromatic Ugandan Robusta or Arabica coffee from your spacious private verandah before going on an early game drive, walking safari, horseback safari or local village visit. Mihingo Lodge now have a watch tower that provides sweeping 360 degrees views of Lake Mburo National Park which is a welcome addition for beautiful viewings of sunrise and sunset while at the lodge.
Activities from Mihingo Lodge.
Mihingo Lodge arranges a variety of safari activities into and around Lake Mburo National Park. Safari holiday activities on offer include, horse rides, walking safaris, day game drives, night game drives, boat trips to view hippos and birds, massages, walks to the watering holes and an opportunity to view bush babes in the evening from a platform underneath the Mihingo Lodge bar area. Mihingo Lodge also arranges running and mountain bike tours outside Lake Mburo National Park as well as local village visits to Bahima Ankole homes to learn about their ways of living, traditions, cultures and history. On such visits, one gets a chance to experience and learn about the Ankole long- horned cows with an opportunity to try your hand at milking, understanding the ghee making process as well as tasting fresh milk from the Ankole long-horned cows.
Nature walks are a fantastic way of exploring and experiencing the Lake Mburo Park and its surroundings. You get a chance to get up close and personal with nature, wildlife and birds. Nature walks in the park must be with an armed park ranger guide. The most popular walking trails go from Mihingo Lodge and along the swamps on the edges of Lake Mburo. The average walking trail will last 2 hours and gives you a chance to see the shoebill and Sitatunga.
Alternatively, you will go on safari game drives inside Lake Mburo Park in a safari 4×4 vehicle. You will get a chance to see buffalos, zebras, impala, topi, bush bucks, reed bucks, warthogs and oribis. The birdlife in Lake Mburo Park is simply amazing and offers avid bird lovers an opportunity to see plenty of bird species, including the rare shoebill.
Take a boat trip on Lake Mburo and explore Lake Mburo and all the wildlife and animals that call the Lake home. You will see plenty of water birds, especially the fish eagles and finfoot. You will also see hippos, crocodiles and other wildlife as it comes to the Lake shore to drink. The boat ride will take about 1.5hrs. It is a small covered roof boat that will take a maximum of 14 persons at a time. Boat trips leave at 8am, 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm and 5.30pm.
