Rwanda on the other hand is also a fascinating safari destination with half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas population, chimpanzees, golden monkeys, a myriad of bird species, stunning landscapes, hills, lakes, game and wildlife that make Rwanda a special safari holiday destination. Combine Uganda and Rwanda on one safari and you have on your hands a truly memorable safari holiday experience.

We have a little bit more to say about Uganda. There is never enough space to write nice things about Uganda plus all the safari activities that one can get their teeth into. We have done our best to compress the best of both Uganda and Rwanda into only 17 safari days. Uganda hosts almost half of the world’s surviving rare mountain gorillas with 15 gorilla families habituated for trekking by humans.

There is an amazingly high number of chimpanzee troops in Kibale forest, Budongo forest as well as Kyambura Gorge. You are spoilt for choice on where to track the chimps, though we advise that you choose to track the chimps in Kibale. Uganda is a birder’s paradise with over 1000 recorded bird species. Uganda’s national parks of Kidepo, Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo are home to the Big 5. In addition, Uganda is home to the majestic Lake Victoria, the source of the mighty Nile, home to the mountains of the moon-Rwenzori Mountains. It is only in Uganda where one day you are tracking the gorillas, and the next day white water rafting or kayaking on the Nile, the next canoeing on river Nile, then having a guided safari walk, game drives, launch cruises, the list is simply endless.

Verdant Rwanda is fondly referred to as the “land of a thousand hills”. Rwanda is home of the gentle giants of the Virungas, the rare mountain gorillas. It is here that you will be able to track golden monkeys in Volcanoes national park, chimps in Nyungwe and safari game drives in Akagera, not forgetting canoeing trips on the stunningly calm Lake Kivu. There is beautiful lakes galore in Rwanda, including the twin lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo in Volcanoes National Park. The Virunga volcanoes of Bisoke, Karisimbi and Muhavura are also another tour attraction for adventure hiking enthusiasts.
