Burundi is located in East Africa. It’s a landlocked country amidst the African great lakes. The capital city was moved from Bujumbura to Gitega in February 2019. Ruzizi National Game Park

Ruzizi national park is divided into two different parts; the bigger part is located on the eastern bank of Ruzizi River and the other smaller part is formed at the delta of Ruzizi which is the beginning of Lake Tanganyika. 

Enjoy your Burundi tour with the game drives to watch the animals in the park. The park has got 44 species of different mammals; leopards, lions, monkeys, buffalo, antelope. It also has different reptiles like the Nile crocodiles, niloticus crocodiles and various snake species.

Kibira National Park.

The Kibira National Park is located in the north western Burundi. It extends north from the provincial town of Muramuvya. It consists of rainforests and bamboo trees. The park consists of 644 plants, 98 mammals, 200 bird species like the great blue turaco, mountain buzzard, white spotted flufftail, grey parrots, bartailed trogan. The park also harbours primates like chimpanzees, monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and other primates.

While on safari in Burundi, visit Kibira park for chimpanzee tracking in the green savannah rainforests of the park where they live. Enjoy guided nature walks through the forests to bird watch and participate in adventure of spotting wild life. Enjoy the sight of the water falls, the boat cruises to see the crocodiles and hippos.

Karera waterfalls

The Kagera falls sometimes referred to as Karera waterfalls also known as the chutes de la Karera. These are series of waterfalls in south eastern Burundi, south of Rutana. It is made up of six branches divided into three landings.

The most beautiful of the four waterfalls is called Nyakai. Another smaller waterfall is located in the west of the main fall. Waters of these two, fall on the second landing to form the third waterfalls which pours on the valley.

Gishora Drum Sanctuary

Gishora Drum sanctuary is located on the top of the hill 7km away from Gitega. On a cultural safari visit in Burundi don’t miss out the Gishora Drum sanctuary to experience or participate in different drumming and traditional dances. The sanctuary is managed by a local community with descendants of the ancient lineage of Abanyigisako. They were ritualists with privileges from the royal court. They are different drums on the site as drums were used as a political power tool of the monarchy and they were beaten on different occasions in the country.

The two drums which were never beaten; the Ruciteme (the one for whom we clear the forest) and the Murimirwa(the one for whom we cultivate)  which were named accordingly to signify the farming vacation as well as the fertility and characteristic of the king.

There are also the normal drums called the Ingendanyi which were beaten on special occasions of the country. There is astoundingly so many Burundi cultural experiences for a tourist to learn at the Gishora Drum Sanctuary.  

Gitega National Museum

The Gitega National Museum holds Burundian remains and history. It is located in Gitega a few kilometres east of Bujumbura city. On a cultural safari , pass by the Gitega museum to see the art facts and different instruments used by the kings of Burundi, the different musical instruments and witchcraft tools used in the early years.

The photographs of Burundi’s monarchies and their struggles with their ethnic wars as well as genocide memorabilia are all kept here. The information given here is important, legendry and relevant.

The Karyenda royal drums sanctuary and Ibwami (royal court) are right next to the Gitega National Museum making a cultural visit in the area well worth it.
