Chimpanzee Habituation Experience
Stay at Crater Safari Lodge and participate in the Chimpanzee habituation experience in Kibale Forest. Chimpanzee habituation is an exciting and rare experience that will enable you move with a team of researchers and habituation experts as they follow the chimps during their daily activities in Kibale Forest.
During the Chimpanzee habituation exercise chimps are being conditioned to get familiar with human presence without affecting their natural behavior. You will spend the entire day in Kibale Forest. You should expect to see the chimpanzees -de-nesting as they wake up between 5am-6am in the morning, emerge from the nests where they spent the night. As a member of the habituation experience team, you will have a chance to follow the chimps throughout the day and observe them feed, play and interact with each other. You will observe them making new nests for the night before they retire for the night at around 7pm. It is a well worth experience and highly recommended to all primate lovers.
While staying at Crater Safari Lodge, one is also able to visit with Semliki National Park, The Sempaya hot springs plus a visit to the Batwa community.
Located just outside Kibale Forest National Park in Magombe Swamp which hosts Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. Bigodi wetland swamp is popular for hosting a range of wildlife including primates, such as chimpanzees, red colobus monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and other mammals such as sitatunga, bushbuck, otter and mongoose. The wetland is also a haven teeming with abundant birdlife numbering well over140 bird species some of them endemic to the Bigodi wetland sanctuary.
During your visit to the Bigodi Wetland sanctuary, you will get a chance to go for guided walking safaris to view the wildlife and birdlife resident here from viewing platforms and boardwalk trails. Bigodi wetland sanctuary is a community run initiative aimed at conserving the unique bio-diversity and environment found in Bigodi.
