Gorilla’s Nest Lodge: One & Only Gorilla’s Nest Lodge Rwanda is situated on the outskirts of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. The lodge was formerly known as Mountain Gorilla’s Nest and fondly referred to as Gorillas Nest.
Gorilla’s Nest has since been taken over and redeveloped exquisitely by One & Only Resorts. Gorilla’s Nest is located north of Kinigi and only a few minutes’ drive from the park headquarters of Volcanoes National Park, making in an ideal luxury accommodation of choice for guests here for mountain gorilla tracking.
The refurbished One & Only Gorilla’s Nest re-opens in late 2019 in a dramatic location with great views and in the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes range. The lodge offers impressive gorilla trekking accommodation in the spectacular surroundings of the Volcanoes National Park. Together with the sister One & Only Nyungwe House in Nyungwe Forest, they offer the ultimate luxury experience for guests travelling to the two most important and primates’ habitats of Rwanda, Nyungwe Forest National Park and Virunga Volcanoes National Park.
One & Only Gorilla’s Nest offers an exclusive luxury setting to Volcanoes National Park and enables you to retreat to your own world after a memorable meeting with the gentle giants of the Virunga, the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Comfort, luxury, authenticity and great memories on a gorilla safari to Rwanda.
Gorillas Nest Lodge is adjacent to Jack Hanna House which also offers exclusive accommodation to families and groups seeking for a luxury accommodation option when tracking the mountain gorillas.
Both Gorillas Nest and Jack Hanna House boast of extraordinary architecture. They are set within lush green environs of the Virunga Volcanoes and Volcanoes National Park. Gorilla’s Nest and Jack Hanna House offer guests the opportunity where few have gone before, offering once-in-a-lifetime experiences in one of the world’s most exceptional natural locations-Volcanoes National Park Rwanda. Immersed in wild beauty surrounded by awe-inspiring Virunga Volcano views, every element of Gorillas Nest Lodge has been carefully considered, with inspired farm-to-table dining, spa and wellness offerings that embrace nature and local traditions, and curated, authentic Rwandan experiences to explore.
The guest rooms and suites at One & Only Gorilla’s Nest and Jack Hanna House are designed to blend seamlessly within the local natural surroundings of the Virunga Volcano chains of Sabyinyo, Muhabura, Karisimbi and Bisoke. The rooms are constructed using local Rwandan masonry to give the lodge a local contemporary look and feel. There is log burners in each guest room and suite to keep the rooms warm during the chilly evenings, characteristic of the cold nights in the Volcanoes National Park high altitudes. The private verandas offer splendid dramatic views over the Virunga volcano chains and farms in the horizon.
We recommend a minimum stay of 3 nights at One & Only Gorilla’s Nest, with the first day spent exploring the Volcanoes and Kinigi area, visiting local schools, a local market, local villages and a walk to the beautiful twin lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo. The 2nd day could be spent taking a relatively easier hike to track the golden monkeys or hiking to the Karisoke Research Centre to learn about the work of Dian Fossey, visit her grave and the grave of her favourite gorilla “Digit”.
The 3rd day would be when you participate in the ultimate adventure of tracking the rare mountain gorillas in their natural habitat and setting of Volcanoes National Park Virunga ranges.
