Kyambura Gorge Lodge is a boutique safari lodge that was converted from an old coffee store to create stunning luxury accommodation in Kyambura on the edge of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Kyambura Gorge Lodge has dramatic views of Kyambura Gorge, Mountains of the Moon Rwenzori in the far distance, as well as vast rolling savannah plains. The bandas at Kyambura Lodge are designed in a contemporary style, with fantastic views of either the sunken Kyambura Gorge or the vast open savanna plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The cottages are furnished using materials derived from the local area but with ultimate luxury that one would expect from the Volcanoes Lodge stable of Bwindi Lodge, Virunga Lodge and Mount Gahinga Lodge. Kyambura Gorge Lodge is ideally located for visitors to Queen Elizabeth National Park who are here on safari to track the chimpanzees in Kyambura Gorge or on safari to Queen Elizabeth in search of the tree climbing lions of Ishasha or game drives in search of lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards and other game found in the park. Queen Elizabeth Park is host to 600 bird species, making a birding safari here a birder’s dream.

ACTIVITIES AT KYAMBURA GORGE LODGE
CHIMPANZEE TRACKING
The most popular chimpanzee tracking location in Uganda is Kibale Forest. However, Kyambura forest is also natural habitat for the intriguing chimpanzees which can be tracked in Kyambura Gorge. Chimpanzees are man’s closest relatives and tracking while on a safari to Queen Elizabeth Park is an awesome experience. Watch the chimps as they playfully criss-cross from one tree to another swinging from the forest tree branches in the canopy with such ease and guile. The chimpanzee trek takes on average 2-3hours but requires a moderate level of fitness.
Chimpanzee tracking is also available in nearby Kalinzu forest reserve 30 minutes’ drive from Kyambura Gorge Lodge where there is a group of about 40 habituated chimpanzees.
GAME DRIVES IN QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
Murchison Falls National Park and Queen Elizabeth National park are probably the most famous and most visited parks for game drives in search of the cats, the lions and leopards. Queen, as the park is fondly referred to locally is an ideal place for safari game drives in search of elephants, buffalos, leopards, lions and plenty of other wildlife and game that are resident in the park. You may go on day game drive or night safari game drives.
TREE CLIMBING LIONS
The rare spectacle of tree climbing lions can only be witnessed in 2 locations in East Africa, in Lake Manyara National Park Tanzania and in the Ishasha southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Visitors on safari to Queen and staying at Kyambura Gorge Lodge have the rare chance of going on game drives in Ishasha in search of the tree climbing lions.
BIRDING
Safari journeys to Rwanda and Uganda are every birder’s dream. Both Rwanda and Uganda are some of the best bird watching destinations in the world with each offering a wide diversity of bird species that can only be found in Rwanda or Uganda. Uganda boasts a population of well over 1000 bird species with 150 bird species endemic to Uganda. Rwanda follows closely in 2nd place with a recorded over 700 bird species and home to the 2nd largest number of endemic Albertine region bird species. Stay at Kyambura Gorge Lodge for a chance to go bird watching in the birding prolific Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
BOAT CRUISE
Stay at Volcanoes Kyambura Gorge Lodge while on safari to Queen Elizabeth Park in Uganda and have the chance of joining a boat cruiser on the game rich Kazinga Channel, that links Lakes George and Lake Edward. The Kazinga Channel is 32km long and rich in wildlife and birds. The boat cruise sets off at 2pm from Mweya Safari Lodge which is about 1 hr’s drive from Kyambura Gorge Lodge. The boat ride last 4 hours and offers participants a beautiful opportunity to photograph the various game, wildlife and birds that come to drink on the banks of the waters in the hot afternoon sun. You may see plenty of lions, buffalos, hippos, elephants, and leopards.
COMMUNITY COFFEE TOUR
Join a community coffee tour and witness firsthand how coffee beans are processed into some of the best tasting robusta /arabica Ugandan coffee, all done by hand and by participating local community members. You will get an opportunity to taste the finished and brewed coffee product. At the end of the tour, the participants will be given a chance to support the local community by buying some of the cooperative’s coffee to take away to loved one back one and as a sweet memory of your visit to Uganda.
RWENZORI SCULPTURE GALLERY
Set up by Damien Hirst, the Rwenzori Sculpture Foundry & Gallery is a short drive from Kasese. Sculptures by rising Ugandan artists are displayed alongside works by leading European sculptors, the result of collaborations and artist’s residencies. All works are inspired by the people, culture, wildlife and landscape of Uganda, and make the definitive memorabilia of a great safari to Uganda.
RWENZORI MOUNTAINS TREK
Guests at Kyambura Gorge Lodge are able to stay at the lodge as the base for their treks to Rwenzori Mountains. Rwenzori Mountains are fondly referred to as the mountains of the moon. A hike through the lower section of the mountains of the moon-Rwenzori requires about 6 days to climb. Summiting to the peak of the Rwenzori is a technical climb and not a trek and requires an extra 2 days. Climbers must be physically fit and equipped with the requisite mountaineering kit and gear.
The best time to climb the mountain is from June through to August and from December to February. We are able to organize trekking to Mountain Rwenzori through Rwenzori Mountaineering Services.
